Accidental Celebrity- DR Fiona Reynolds

Dr Fiona Reynolds

Fiona Reynolds reported, produced and led teams to deliver high quality print, radio, television and digital content to audiences across Australia for more than 30 years.

She began her media career at The Examiner newspaper in Launceston as a 17-year-old cadet journalist in 1988. After developing her skills in ABC management interstate, Fiona returned to The Examiner as Tasmania’s first female daily newspaper editor. She was named Telstra Tasmanian Business Woman of the Year in 2009.

Fiona was soon appointed ABC State Director and went on to join the broadcaster’s executive leadership team as the founding Director of its Regional division. She travelled the country almost non-stop for three years while overseeing all of the ABC’s operations outside the capital cities, across 48 locations, as well as some state-based and national programs.

In 2018, Fiona decided to ‘get off the road’ and stay home with her husband Peter and two young daughters in Launceston. She graduated from the University of Tasmania with a PhD in Journalism, Media and Communications in 2020. Her research centred on the media experience of trauma survivors who were transformed into accidental celebrities. Fiona turned the work into a popular podcast, reaching number 1 in Australia in early 2021.

She now shares her communications expertise with others, as Principal of Fiona Reynolds Media.
